Friends of the School

"Every parent is dedicated to supporting the school in whatever way they can to enhance the learning experience for the pupils. So every parent is a 'friend' of the school. The Committee of the Friends is currently made up of a number of parents with children from all year groups. They meet once at the beginning of each term to discuss future social events, fun and fund raising. The Committee would welcome new members (either gender) as they are great for bringing new ideas and enthusiasm to the group. The Friends Committee, with the help of parents, staff and members of the local community raise on average £2,000 a year for the benefit of the pupils and work closely with the Head Teacher to decide where the money raised should go.

If you are interested in finding out more about the 'Friends of East Cowton School' please contact Mrs Bainbridge in the School Office.

Winter Update

Welcome to our new termly mini-newsletter, in which we would like to bring you all up to date with what the Friends of East Cowton CE Primary School have been involved with recently.

The "Friends" is a fundraising group made up of both parents, Governors and staff, with the aim of enhancing the opportunities for the children at our school. Part of what we do therefore is to raise the funds themselves with events that we hope are good fun, some include the children as you will see below, others are for us adults to enjoy. The other part of our remit is to spend the funds! Some of the ways we do this are to provide extra resources for the children at school, financially support trips and visits as well as bringing exciting people to come into school to add to the curriculum.

So, this term we have bought 2 super keyboards for Class One, which are ideal for children who are just learning the alphabet to access IT, we have funded the Class Two Victorian Christmas Workshop at Beamish on Wed 28th Nov, which we hope will add to the children's understanding of what times gone by were really like. We have also funded a disco after school (Tuesday 18th Dec) and a pantomime during school hours on Thursday 20th Dec, both of which will hopefully get everybody in the Christmas spirit!
