Governor Information

Parent Governors

Chair of Governors

Colette Faulks

I am the elected Chair of the Federated Governing Body of East Cowton and Kirkby Fleetham CE Schools. I previously served for one year as Chair of Governors at Kirkby Fleetham School. I am an elected parent governor for that school and have a daughter in year 5. I am also the link governor for EYFS and Teaching, Learning and Assessment so have a special interest in the younger children at both schools. As a parent and a governor I know Kirkby Fleetham quite well by now. I am enjoying meeting the children and parents from East Cowton and getting to know the staff and school. I intend to visit both schools regularly. Please feel free to get in touch with me about anything affecting either school.  I can be contacted on cofg@eastcowton.n-yorks.sch.uk

Vice Chair

Graeme Thompson

I was Chair of Governors at East Cowton for two years prior to the federation where my three children have all attended.  I am the lead governor for the finances, achievement and progress and associated policies and looking forward to assisting in the growth and development of the federation in the future.  I can be contacted on graeme@grierandco.com.

Foundation Governors

Stephen Cooke

As the Foundation Governor for East Cowton school and now for the federation I am a strong link between the Church and the school and was appointed by the diocese. I am a regular Church goer, member of the PCC and leader of the Church Youth Group and am keen to help with the spiritual development of the children throughout the school. I currently participate in Collective worship and work with the Collective Worship Group at East Cowton and aim to do similar at Kirkby Fleetham. I am jointly responsible for Leadership and Management and Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare.

Rachel Savage

I was Foundation Governor at Kirkby Fleetham for two years prior to the federation, and am appointed by the diocese. I am currently the Governor responsible for the SEN provision in school. I live in Kirkby Fleetham and my children are former pupils of the school and now attend Saint Francis Xavier School, Richmond. I work as a Teaching Assistant in a small village school very like Kirkby Fleetham. I am the SEN Governor and jointly responsible for Teaching, Learning and Assessment.

Local Authority Governor

 Gerry Price

I am the governor nominated by North Yorkshire County Council to the board of governors.  I live in Exelby having moved to the area six years ago after retiring from my post as Area Director for Children's Services in Hampshire.  I am the link governor for all aspects of children’s achievement and progress across both schools.  I am also chair of governors at Bedale High School.

Resigned in July 2016.

Staff Governors

Louise Wyatt

I have been a teacher at Kirkby Fleetham school since January 2010. I first taught in KS2 before switching to KS1 in 2012. In addition to my normal teaching role, I am literacy and special needs coordinator responsible for monitoring and developing these areas throughout the school. I serve on the governing body as staff governor and am able to form a vital link between staff and governors as we all work with the shared goal of helping the children reach their full potential. I am jointly responsible for Outcomes for Pupils.

Marie Mann

I have been a teacher at East Cowton School since September 2014 and teach in the KS2 class. In addition to my normal teaching role, I am Mathematics and Music subject leader and am responsible for monitoring and developing these areas across the federation. I serve on the governing body as staff governor. I am jointly responsible for Outcomes for pupils.

Co-opted governors

Lynn Wild

Prior to the federation I was Co-opted Governor on the Governing Body of Kirkby Fleetham Church of England Primary School.  I have lived in Kirkby Fleetham for over 27 years and both of my sons attended the school.  I believe rural villages are richer for having a school at their heart and look forward to supporting the federation in my new role.

My expertise lies in school finance and administration.  I am currently the School Business Manager at Hambleton & Richmondshire Pupil Referral Service and previously worked at both the Allertonshire School and Northallerton College.  I am confident that the knowledge and experience gained in both my current and previous roles will be an asset to the school.

I am responsible for Leadership and Management and Safeguarding.

Mike Ingram

I joined the Governing Body following federation whilst my children were at the school. My professional career is as a doctor in medicine (specifically anaesthetics), through which I hope to promote health and wellbeing across the schools. My career in medicine has been as a serving Army Officer, providing some expertise in operational and strategic level management as well as ethical and moral issues. I visit both schools regularly, and support the head teacher and Governing Body in aspiring to excellence.

I am responsible for Leadership and Management and Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare.

Susan Shields

I have lived in East Cowton for over 20 years and joined East Cowton School in April 2014 as School Administrator.  Prior to that I spent most of my career in IT or as a Senior Policy Officer at the Department for Education, so I know where to find things and have a good grounding in the Freedom of Information Act!  I am responsible for website/marketing and ICT issues, Pupil Premium and Sports Premium.  I want to make sure that the position of both school is strengthened through the federation

Chris Gent

I joined the Governing Body to help contribute to the excellent work already being done within both schools, as a parent of 2 children at East Cowton CE Primary I am keen to understand and help shape the schools for the future and overcome the challenges we may face. I have had the pleasure of being involved in education and schools for the past 15 years which I hope will put me in a good position to provide ideas and guidance. As part of my role with Health and Safety I will endeavour to visit the school regularly to ensure both schools are safe for our children.

I have lived in Kirkby Fleetham for 7 years and all four of my children have attended Kirkby Fleetham primary school. My youngest two are in pre-reception so I have a long term interest in seeing the school flourish and grow.

Clerk to the governing Body

Valerie Brown

Val can be contacted through either school
